Generic Engineered System Life Cycle
originator: Bruce Lerner
Observations and discussions (some specifically with <Prof Joe>) had me thinking about how we can claim to be a single discipline if we cannot describe what we do in a clear, consistent, agreed upon format. I am investigating a model consisting of a set of gates and describing the output from those gates (which is obviously the input to the next stage in the life cycle). I 'special case' the first stage and allow inputs. Joe and I are evaluating existing descriptions of systems related life cycles with this model. We will be adjusting our model as needed to accommodate the existing life cycle descriptions.
I am starting this activity with my initial thoughts, but expect that as we collaborate, the places where I use the singular pronoun “I” will become “We” or dissolve into the narrative, so please do not be put off by what may seem like ownership. Start here and make it “Ours”.
I also expect that this page will carry a list of the contributors. Originator is there for now so you know who to blame.
