Working back from the end-of-life for a product, I propose these necessary deliverables for the product life cycle.

Retirement

  1. Output: plan for long-term management of non-reusable potentially hazardous disposed materials
    1. Examples: EV-Batteries, Radioactive materials

- Disposal: (*may be outside the scope of product developer*)

  1. Output: is fundamental components that can be re-manufactured or disposed of in environmentally safe ways

- Re-purpose (*may be outside the scope of product developer*)

  1. Output: components that can re-used

Operation

- Maintenance (*may be outside the scope of product developer*)

  1. Output: products that no longer meet customer needs

- Service: (*outside the scope of the business of interest*)

  1. Output: customer needs (they acquired it for a purpose - to meet their needs)

Deployment (Logistics Processes)

- Delivery: (Installation, Ship-to-shelf)

  1. Output: working units in customer 'control' (operational responsibility transferred to 'customer')

Production (Fabrication/Manufacturing Process)

- Fabrication (to include single, multiple, mass production) *< what about build on-site >*

  1. Output: units to deploy

Development -Research and Product Development (Engineering Process)

(maybe a better word here to cover single, multiple, mass production units) - Development:

  1. Output:
    1. production ready design information
    2. service information
    3. manufacturing information
    4. operating information
    5. retirement information (especially when retirement is mandated)

- Concept:

  1. Output: top-level product architecture with functions allocated to top-level architectural architectural elements.

Opportunity Acceptance (Business Process)

- FDS :

  1. Output: the description of the current state selected short-comings to address and a description of the desired state

- Opportunity Selection:

  1. Output:a description of the current state and issues in this state

Opportunity Elicitation (Business Process)

- Potential Project Pipeline

  1. Output: proposed, ranked set of areas to explore

- Ideation

  1. Output: a basket of ideas to evaluate
  2. INPUT: marketing ideas, strategic ideas, research ideas, user feedback, etc.
